New technology in heating and air
conditioning systems makes indoor living more pleasant. We have come a long way
from the days of only using window and floor fans to cool our rooms and pot
belly stoves to keep us warm. Great improvements have been made down through
the years in both HVAC and energy systems. Units have become smaller and more
efficient. This results in longer lasting units and lower energy bills. Both
are welcome additions to any home, office, or commercial setting.
New technology in HVAC systems has
brought us smaller units that take us less space but are still powerful enough
to do the job. Many of them are easier for the homeowner or business owner to
maintain and service. Filters have improved to the point of trapping most
things that flow through the air. We enjoy the benefits of breathing cleaner
air year round. This reduces allergies and other respiratory problems. Setting
up a maintenance schedule to service all of our own HVACR equipment really pays
off. It reduces the number of times we call a service technician to work on the
heating and air condition systems and they tend to last longer.
What’s the Latest in Air Conditioning
Systems and Repair?
We can count it a blessing that so much
progress has been made in air conditioning and repair during the last decade.
Some of the major changes and improvements in AC systems include:
- More efficient fan blade shape
 - Better compressor technology
 - Lower noise levels
 - Less ozone problems
 - Less electricity usage
 - Diagnostics port

Improperly shaped fan blades (that move
the air) can create more noise than necessary. They can also be inefficient
because the motor must run longer and harder to move the proper amount of air
through the system. Lab and quality control tests have resulted in better parts
and equipment that can cost less to manufacture and move a stronger flow of
air. Poorly shaped fan blades can also work the holding nuts loose and cause
problems.
Newer two-stage compressors operate at
full power only on the hottest days. This major improvement saves wear and tear
on the equipment and costs less to operate. Many of us have owned older systems
that run continuously hour after hour on the hot days. We worry about the
compressor, motor, or fan blade. We think one or more of them will break down
at any time – especially when the unit is a few years old.
The noise generated by heating and air
conditioning systems bothers some people too much. When the system turns on it
can clank, rattle, and raise the noise level to an almost intolerable point. It
can wake us up time and time again. Some people run a fan in their bedroom.
Noises have been reduced to an acceptable level in both window units and
central air conditioning.
HVAC Service Training Gives Technicians
Greater Skills
The HVAC service training that
technicians get today gives them the skills to make life more pleasant and
convenient for the homeowner. Newer refrigerants are safer for the ozone layer.
Technicians can help the homeowner or business owner select more energy
efficient systems. New equipment has a diagnostic port that is easy for the
repair person to analyze problems.
